William Chin

He is known for his leadership and innovative artistic bridge-building with organizations ranging from the Chicago Symphony Chorus to the Chicago Children’s Choir; with dance companies including live appearances with the Joffrey Ballet and Momenta; and with children’s performing arts organizations, orchestral ensembles such as Chicago Arts Orchestra, and even art galleries. As a performing arts designer and producer, Mr. Chin was instrumental in the founding of Early Music Chicago. He has provided choruses for the Joffrey Ballet’s productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Les Noces, and Copland Motets, the touring concert Video Games Live, the Queen tribute concert by Tributosaurus, the Auditorium Theatre’s Lush Life tribute to Billy Strayhorn, the 2021, 2023 and 2024 appearances by Andrea Bocelli at Allstate Arena, and a full staged production of Orff’s Carmina Burana at the United Center featuring dancers acrobats, and a choir in fireproof robes.

Mr. Chin was Assistant Conductor of the Chicago Symphony Chorus from 1999 to 2018. In his six-year stint as Artistic Director of Chicago Children’s Choir, he helped to establish its international touring reputation and influenced a generation of singers, conductors, and composers who are in turn influencing young musicians today. He did similar life-changing work in his 18 seasons as Artistic Director of Pro Musica Youth Chorus and in his work with amateur singers in City Voices and the Symphony Chorus of the Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest. Through The Oriana Singers and his involvement with professional singers in the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Schola Antiqua of Chicago, Chicago A Cappella, and as conductor of choral recording sessions for GIA Publications, Bill has helped to further the careers of hundreds of Chicago-area singers.
